Ferrari 250 GTO
A car which is regarded by many as being the most beautiful Ferrari of all time, and even by some as the most beautiful car of all time has been sold at auction for the highest price ever paid for a car in Britain. The car in question was an ultra-rare 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO, and the price paid was a staggering £20.2 million. The sale actually came close to breaking the World record for the price paid for a car which still belongs, just, to the 2010 sale of a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC. That car sold for between £20 and £26 million.
|

The sale itself has a little mystery behind it, although not much, because the man who is the last known owner of Ferrari 250 GTO chassis number 5095, British businessman Jon Hunt of Foxtons Estate Agents fame is saying nothing. Neither is nothing known at the moment about the new owner although the rumour is that the car is on its way to Spain.

Mr. Hunt bought the car in 2008 in a transaction which actually claimed the World record at the time. He paid £15.7 million for it. The investment seems to have been a good one, as if it was he who sold the car, he has made a tidy £4.5 million pounds profit. Not bad for just over three years of no work!

The actual sale of the car has been confirmed by the Chairman of Telacrest, the classic Ferrari specialist but we just don’t know who the vendor or the buyer were.

If you had owned the car from new you would be sitting on a near 100% profit with this transaction as the car would have cost only around £6000.

Aston Martin DBS
The Aston Martin DBS took over from the Aston Martin Vanquish as the top of the range car in the Aston Martin portfolio, unless of course you count the limited edition (77 of them) Aston Martin One-77? No, neither do we. The DBS was unveiled to critical acclaim on 16th August 2007 at the councours d’elegance at Pebble Beach. The first customer cars were delivered as soon as early 2008.
|

The Aston Martin DBS is based on the Aston Martin DB9 but looks more aggressive while still managing to keep the beautiful lines of it’s (slightly) little brother. Looks are not the only thing the DBS shares with the DB9. Under the bonnet is an orchestra of 12 cylinders in a V measuring in at 5.9 litres. This is the same unit as in the DB9, and in the DBS cracks out an ear splitting 510 bhp. When the DBS starts up it is simply one of the most impressive sounds in the production car world.

Make no mistake, the Aston DBS is a true supercar with lots of power and torque flooding from the front arriving at the rear, which if you’re not ready for it will lead to lots of sideways fun, fun that is had while sitting in one of the most luxurious interiors in a performance car.

If you get chance to climb inside one of these monsters and take it for a spin, don’t turn it down as your experience will be truly memorable.

Comments:
Right, well to be honest, I think this car is a little bit bonkers and will undoubtedly be bought by people who think the word recession only applies to people with less digits in their bank balances than they have brain cells. Yes it will do 199mph (and lets face it, if you remove the electronic limiter it will probably do a hell of a lot more), and it will get you to that point quite rapidly as well. However, there are a lot of things on my list of must haves that would have to be bought before I could fork out £250k on a Mercedes. How about a Ferrari 458 Italia? And with the £90k you have left in your pocket, you could build a nice garage for it. Complete with an ensuite bathroom.

Comments:
| Onlookers have relatively recently declared that the replacement for the truly superb Ferrari F430 would likely be the last of the ‘normal’ Ferraris. I’m not so sure. Yes, Ferrari have taken a leap forward in performance, engineering and looks with the Ferrari 458 Italia, but to be honest its not that big a leap. I think there is probably still more that can be squeezed out of the familiar mid engined rear wheel drive layout before Ferrari have to get really radical.
Having said all that, the new Ferrari 458 Italia seems to have taken a big enough leap to make the Lamborghini Gallardo, which after all is its main rival, look a little…. dated. |
