The life of an Olympic athlete must be intense and exciting, especially in the run up to the London 2012 Games. The whole world is anticipating the biggest sporting event of the year which will take place in England’s capital and a number of documentaries have been launched to offer an insight into the talented sports men and women.

But many of the athletes will attain attributes which can be likened to a vehicle such as power, determination, speed and endurance; and these videos will offer a guide into the comparisons.

The films, which have been published on YouTube, focus on an Olympic or Paralympic athlete from the BMW London 2012 Performance Team and they can be watched by clicking here. BMW 750 Li BMW have made a few changes to its flagship 7 series range. They’ve added a few things too. The 2011 7 series range is now the largest range the series has ever seen. There are now 15 models in total. Following the addition of the 750i xDrive, the 750 Li xDrive and the 760 Li in 2010, the 7 series now includes a 3 litre in line 6 that produces similar power to the V8 but with better fuel economy. If you so desire, you can also have a BMW 7 series complete with the M sport package, another first for the 7 series. The M sport package includes an M steering wheel, a new aerodynamics package, new exterior and interior trim as well as 19″ wheels with high performance tyres. |
|
| Active steering with a difference is now available on the 7 series. I say with a difference because not only does the 7 series now get BMW’s acclaimed active steering system, but it also gets rear wheel steer as an option. BMW call it integrated active steering and it makes for never seen before precision and control. |
|
| All the 750 models are powered by a new 4.4 litre twin turbo V8 which has quite an unusual design. Both the turbos are mounted in the valley between the two banks of cylinders. The exhaust valves are also on the inside of the V with the inlet valves on the outside. This strange arrangement seems to have worked out quite well as the engine produces 400bhp over a 5500 to 6400rpm rev range. Torque is impressive too with 450lb-ft available over an even wider range of 1750 to 4500rpm. The layout allows BMW to squeeze more power from the engine but at the same time allow for greater economy. The greater power available means that this rather large luxury saloon will get from 0 to 60mph in 5.1 seconds or 5 seconds dead if you have the xDrive model. |
|
As well as advanced engineering and improvements to performance and economy, BMW have not forgotten that the 7 series is supposed to be a luxury car. If you can think of a technology that should be in a large luxury saloon then the BMW 7 series has got it. Here are a few things to whet your appetite:
Active headlamps that take into account the topography of the road and will move to allow you to continue to see forwards even over the crest of a hill.
.
Three choices of wood trim
.
Four choices of Nappa leather upholstery
.
New light bars highlight door handles, storage areas and door panels
.
Large, 60×92 cm moon roof made from curved glass with a powered shade
.
Unrivalled space and comfort
.
Black panel technology for instruments for brighter clearer readouts
And of course you get the best technology in the form of integrated hi fi system and satellite navigation. And another World first, an integrated computerised user manual so that you can take advantage of all of BMW 750 Li’s features. |

| Comments: |
| After announcing that they were going to go ahead with the X5 and X6 M cars everyone concluded that M division had finally lost the plot, especially after last year stating that there was no reason to make a new CSL, as there was no demand. However, M Division have rescued thier rep with this baby. It’s not a CSL so they weren’t lying last year, it’s a GTS, which is better. This is a true race car for the street (only if you order it with the optional street pack option). It looks the business too. It will be delivered to the first few customers in Germany around May 2010 and they will be paying somewhere in the region of £105k for it. They will get a very exclusive car for their money though. There are only plans to build 100. |
